Here are seven statements of faith, drawing from the books of Romans, Galatians, James, Philippians, 1 Peter, and considering the importance of sound doctrine from a marriage manual:
We believe in the Triune God
We affirm that there is one true God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. We believe in their unity and equality in essence and power (Romans 8:14-17, Galatians 4:6, James 2:19, Philippians 2:5-11).
We believe in salvation by grace through faith
We affirm that salvation is a gift of God's grace and is received by faith in Jesus Christ alone. We believe that our justification before God is based on the atoning work of Jesus' death and resurrection (Romans 3:23-24, Galatians 2:16, James 2:24, Philippians 3:9, 1 Peter 1:3-5).
We believe in the authority and sufficiency of Scripture
We affirm that the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired and infallible Word of God. We believe it is the supreme authority in matters of faith and practice, and it provides all that is necessary for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness (Romans 15:4, Galatians 1:8-9, James 1:22, Philippians 2:16, 1 Peter 1:25).
We believe in the importance of faith expressed through obedience
We affirm that true faith in Christ results in a transformed life marked by obedience to God's commands and a pursuit of holiness. We believe that faith without works is dead and that our faith is demonstrated through acts of love and service (Romans 6:17-18, Galatians 5:6, James 2:14-26, Philippians 2:12-13, 1 Peter 1:15-16).
We believe in the indwelling and empowering of the Holy Spirit
We affirm that the Holy Spirit dwells in believers, empowering them to live godly lives, bearing fruit and granting spiritual gifts for the building up of the church. We believe in the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in sanctification and the need for dependence on Him (Romans 8:9-11, Galatians 5:22-25, James 4:5, Philippians 2:13, 1 Peter 4:10-11).
We believe in the unity and diversity of the body of Christ
We affirm that all believers are united in Christ and are members of His body, the church. We believe in the importance of maintaining unity in the Spirit, while recognizing and embracing the diversity of gifts, roles, and backgrounds within the body (Romans 12:4-5, Galatians 3:28, James 2:1-4, Philippians 2:2-4, 1 Peter 4:10).
We believe in the hope of Christ's return and the consummation of all things
We affirm the future return of Jesus Christ, when He will judge the living and the dead, and the establishment of His eternal kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the dead and the ultimate restoration and renewal of all creation (Romans 8:18-25, Galatians 6:7-9, James 5:7-9, Philippians 3:20-21, 1 Peter 1:3-4).
These statements of faith provide a foundation for belief and practice, rooted in the teachings of the Bible and the core principles found in the books of Romans, Galatians, James, Philippians, and 1 Peter, as well as the wisdom and guidance offered in a marriage manual.
